when i play this song, my cat purrrrrs
29. June 2008
LOL! isn’t that funny? i couldn’t believe my ears. my cats are weird but at least they know what they like. hahaha.
i just saw this video for the first time, and i really like it. this is probably one of the better pop videos i’ve seen in a long time. leona looks beautiful and sexy and not sleazy. i like how the song is open to interpretation and the video allows for the different situations that the song refers to. i also like the unifying theme of the song and the video that love is sometimes complicated. that gets two snaps and banana split from me! without being tmi, it has been a very fitting summer theme song for me. le sigh (i’ve always hated people who used that expression that but now i’ve become one).
in other news, i have decided to sell my car as i have determined that i probably won’t need it in the east coast and i definitely will not be able to afford it. i just need a couple of days to be certain. i am thinking about flying instead of driving now, obviously. that will be interesting. i am procrastinating (to my mom’s dismay) making travel plans. they are not fun.
finally, it seems like being sick and sleeping about 14+ hours a day this week on average has totally screwed up my sleeping schedule. at least i’m beginning to feel better and can start being productive again.

the pussycat dolls are annoying
25. June 2008
i have to admit, i used to like the pussy cat dolls once upon a time. i liked their last album, i saw them in concert a couple times because they were opening for some other act (the one that i was really there to see). i liked their videos, etc… however, even at the apex of my pussycat doll fandom (if you can call it that) i was bothered. first of all, their show is really really raunchy. like, i was 26 years old and i blushed. part of it is because i am 26 going on 83 (as the golden girls is one of my favorite shows) but part of it is because they are marketed as burlesque dancers who sing so their “dance moves” basically emulate sex with an invisible guy. it’s not really my taste. what bothered me more, however, were all the little 10-14 year old girls who ADORED them and watched this shit. the little girls were watching the same thing that made me as a 26 year old blush. and they were there with their parents. okay, i don’t have any kids and i don’t want to judge people’s parenting decisions but i wanted to protect these little girls from having burlesque dancers as role models. i hope these little girls want more out of life than to dress provocatively, dance like a stripper, and use their sexuality as entertainment for the masses.
so apparently, i’m not the only one who realized that little girls loooooove pussycat dolls because i feel like their new single, when i grow up, is totally marketed to those little girls. first of all, that song is fucken annoying as hell. second of all, it bothers me that the people in charge of marketing pussycat dolls are sending such a stupid and potentially damaging message to little girls. what a fucken waste it would be that women in the 21st century could be anything they want and change the world and make it a better place through being mothers, professionals, volunteers, etc and they choose to be like a fucken pussycat doll. sorry, i’m probably reading too much into this but this is my blog, and this is my rant. you don’t know how disappointed i was as a teacher when i saw pictures of kendall from that playboy show all over my students’ folders. these girls are like 15 years old and they look up to porn starts. WTF.
anyway, back to the pussycat doll hate. i don’t like the way they dance, i don’t like their clothes, i don’t like their new single, and i hate that they are marketed toward preteens who can’t discern a fantasy world from the real world.
finally, i hate how they talk in ebonics like they are ‘hood or something. like, how are burlesque dancers ‘hood? can someone tell me because i don’t get it.
